GEO — Generative Engine Optimization

Generative Engine Optimization

Become visible in AI-powered discovery — understood as an entity, cited as a source, represented accurately.

The honest version of GEO

When someone asks an AI assistant to recommend tools in your category, the systems answering draw on what the open web says about you: how clearly you’re defined as an entity, how authoritative the sources mentioning you are, and whether original evidence exists that’s worth citing. GEO is the discipline of improving those inputs. It is not prompt-hacking, and anyone claiming to know a generative system’s “ranking factors” is selling confidence, not knowledge.

The work

  • Entity clarity. One consistent definition of who you are — across your site, structured data, profiles, and third-party sources — so both search engines and language models learn the same thing.
  • Source quality. Earning mentions in the publications and databases generative systems actually draw from, in your category’s context.
  • Original evidence. Research, data, and expertise that give AI systems a reason to cite you rather than summarize around you.
  • Extractable content. The same answer-first structure as AEO, applied to the pages that define your brand and category.
  • Technical discoverability. Making sure the crawlers behind these systems can access and correctly parse what you publish.

How we measure it

Where Google’s generative AI performance reports in Search Console are available, they give direct impression data for AI Overviews and AI Mode. We combine that with a tracked-prompt panel across major assistants — recording brand mentions, category association, citation presence, and accuracy — plus mention monitoring across earned coverage. Observations, honestly reported; never guarantees, because Google’s documentation is clear that no special optimization buys placement.
